8/5/2025 10:10:01 AM: Project currently at the intersection of East 57th plus East 58th Street and Battey. Storm pipe and water line systems to be completed by September 2025. Project will move over to the 200 block of East 57th Street to begin storm pipe replacement and water line improvements in September 2025.
1/30/2025 3:10:30 PM: Phase 2-1 and 2-2 is currently under construction. Phase 2-1 has installed new 60" storm pipe from Harmon to past Paulsen St. along 54th St. Phase 2-2 has installed twin 72" storm pipe into the Harmon St. box culvert at 56th St. and is continuing west along 56th St. Phase 2-3 deep tunnel design contract has been awarded to Black and Veatch and is well under way with field investigations and design.
6/3/2024 10:55:06 AM: Phases 2-1 and 2-2 were bid for construction and awarded to TIC. Construction is well underway on phase 2-1 with completion of the initial 60" pipe tie into the Harmon St. box culvert at Harmon and 54th Street. Crews are now continuing to install new 60" pipe west along 54th Street. Once phase 2-1 is completed, TIC will begin construction on phase 2-2 starting at Harmon and 56th Street and working west along 56th Street. In addition, staff have completed procurement for a piggyback contract with Black and Veatch Consulting firm for the final design of the Phase 2-3 deep tunnel associated with Habersham Village and Abercorn Street drainage improvements. This design should begin in July 2024.
11/30/2023 10:14:00 AM: Phase 2-1 and 2-2 bid process completed; we are working with the contractor for valve engineering, the bid will be presented to City council for approval soon. Deep tunnel project design is on the horizon for funding discussion.
5/8/2023 3:23:04 PM: Casey Phase II-A, since the 2020 design was canceled due to weighty disturbance to the community, Stormwater staff has developed 3 separate approaches to solve the flooding issues in the area.
1. 54th improvement from Abercorn to Harmon. – portion of construction started between Reynolds St. and Atlantic Ave.; the rest of improvements will be construction with #2 improvement.
2. 56th & 57th Street improvement from Abercorn to Harmon. – Design will be completed in the middle of 2023; construction shall start later in 2023.
3. Deep Tunnel along possible 61st street. Preliminary feasibility study is done, detailed design contract (Piggyback form) submitted to purchasing for preliminary approval, waiting for the response from purchasing.
1/5/2022 4:38:42 PM: Staff is looking into running 60" dia. RCP pipes along 54th street to tie into Harmon box in order to relive flooding in the northern area around 53rd street; Running 24 to 48" RCP pipes along 57th street, turn north on Reynolds and go down 56th street to tie into the Harmon box in order to relive flooding on 58th and 57th between Habersham and Atlantic.

5/26/2021 12:33:11 PM: Casey Phase II-A T&H has completed 100% design drawings and associated deliverables. Plans have been submitted to SPR and comments addressed, only Stormwater and W/S Departments still have comments at this time, Waiting for T&H’s Easement Plat proposal, City Real Estate Services will reach out and acquire easements once the plats are ready, the project is estimated to go out for bid at end of 2022.
12/15/2020 4:51:36 PM: City's consultant working on 100% final plans. Plans to be presented to City Site Plan Review this month. Staff has held periodic meetings with the consultant and various City departments to gain input and coordination. First Quarter 2021 will include completion of plans, permitting, property acquisition, and contractor prequalification's.
7/22/2020 5:28:13 PM: City's consultant continues to finalize design drawings. Updated drawings have been presented to City staff for review and comment. Meetings have been scheduled with Traffic Engineering, Sewer and Water, and Stormwater Management Departments to discuss specific comments and concerns. City and its consultant will then be working towards final 100% plans, permitting, property acquisition, and contractor prequalification's.
3/30/2020 3:24:00 PM: City's consultant Thomas and Hutton continue to finalize design drawings. City staff have reviewed 60% plans and performed field determinations of identified challenges and existing utility obstacles to provide Thomas and Hutton with comments and revisions.
12/19/2019 3:59:01 PM: Design continues. SPLOST was approved, making available $20 M additional for this improvement and the next phase.
9/30/2019 1:06:17 PM: Public meeting occurred with interested residents on July 11. Consideration for removing trees in advance of construction is no longer being considered. Although Thomas and Hutton delivered 60% plans last quarter, many of the details that were part of the 60% scope remain undelivered.
7/2/2019 3:08:19 PM: 60% design plans were received from the consultant during the quarter. A public meeting is scheduled for July 11 to discuss design details on Columbus Drive.
3/29/2019 2:24:48 PM: Staff continues to await delivery of the 60% design plans. Staff is also reviewing project options regarding tree canopy along Columbus Drive. Greenscapes staff are assisting with the review.
12/31/2018 4:37:57 PM: Thomas and Hutton delivered 30% plans and 30% Stormwater Management Report. This entry corrects a typo on last quarter's report. Staff received a signed and sealed hydraulic model report from EMC in November. Traffic calming analysis for Hull Park indicates that a raised crosswalk is the most practical traffic calming technique for the design. Staff also received the Preliminary Estimation and review of Construction Vibration Levels for Driven Sheet Piles for Temporary Excavation Support report and has begun review. Thomas and Hutton is completing 60% construction plans.
10/12/2018 12:22:48 PM: Thomas & Hutton delivered 90% design plans and is finalizing design of traffic calming structures for the South end of Hull Park. Bidding of the project is scheduled for second quarter 2019 with construction to be complete by late 2022.
7/12/2018 4:10:38 PM: Consultant Thomas & Hutton completed the pre-concept phase of the design, delivered 30% completion design drawings, and is working on detailed design. Staff is reviewing the 30% design submittal. Consultant is several months behind schedule, but believes they can deliver completed design by 1Q 2019. Construction to be complete by 2022.
6/12/2018 11:13:53 AM: Consultant conducted survey and soil boring work during the first quarter. Geotechnical work is underway, and a pre concept meeting with Staff is set during mid April. Completion of the design phase and start of the bid process is expected in the first quart of 2019. Bid opening, contract award and start of construction is expected in the second quarter of 2019 and completion in fourth quarter of 2021.
