Construction has begun on the Stratford Street park including installation of sidewalks and a bus pull off along Augusta Avenue in the block of the park.

Working to obtain pricing for completion of Stratford Street park with Augusta Avenue sidewalks east and west to nearest cross streets with crosswalks that connect this south side of street sidewalk to the north side of street sidewalk. Expect to have a proposal in the 2nd quarter for moving forward within budget to complete this portion of the project.

State contractor Johnson and Laux is preparing a proposal, including cost estimates and project schedule, for the construction of phase 3 streetscape improvements and the installation of a passive park at Stratford Street. It is anticipated that construction will begin in June and be completed by the end of October 2019.

Site development plans are expected to be approved by the City of Savannah in the first week of January 2019. Bid documents are now planned for completion in January 2019 with the project being released for bids in February 2019. Construction is planned to begin in the 2nd quarter and to be complete by the end of the 3rd quarter 2019.

The engineering consultant is incorporating permit review comments into the final plans. Final plans are expected to be completed in October. Bid documents are planned for completion in November. The project is planned to be released for bids in December with work taking place between March and June 2019.

The site development plan for a passive park at Stratford Street has been approved. Staff reviewed Augusta Avenue Phase-3 preliminary design plans in May/June 2018. Design plans are expected to be finalized by August 2018 with permitting taking place in September 2018. Staff anticipate preparing bid documents and an RFP in October 2018 before posting the RFP in November 2018. Contractor selection is scheduled for January 2019. Construction is expected to take place between March and June 2019.

Site and landscape design plans have been completed and approved by the City Engineer for a neighborhood park, bus pullover, and enhanced transit stop to be located at Stratford Street. Work is underway on the design of Phase 3 streetscape improvements to include the design of sidewalks, ADA ramps, driveway aprons and tree lawn along the south side of the corridor between Fell Street to New Castle Street. Stamped concrete pedestrian crosswalks will also be designed for seven intersections along the corridor. A topographic and property survey for the Phase 3 section of the Augusta Avenue corridor has been completed.

Year-to-date outcomes include: 1,690 LF of sidewalk installation/repair completed; 21 ADA ramps installed; Approximately 1,360 LF of curb installation/repair completed; Approximately 40 street trees planted; Fencing installed on City parcels at Scarborough/Newell Streets/Comer Street; CAT bus stop amenities - retaining wall, 3 bus shelter pads and 3 new shelters installed; Bus pullover design for Stratford Street park site completed; 2 single family infill housing units constructed. Third quarter progress includes the following: Site and landscape design plans have been completed for a neighborhood park and enhanced transit stop to be located at Stratford Street. The City’s civil engineering contractor completed a proposal for the design of Phase 3 streetscape improvements to include the design of sidewalks, ADA ramps, driveway aprons and tree lawn along the south side of the corridor. Stamped concrete pedestrian crosswalks will also be designed for seven intersections along the corridor.

Per the Street Maintenance Department, the amount of work required to complete Phase 3 streetscape improvements cannot be completed by annual contractors on a part time basis. Therefore, the Street Maintenance Department recommends issuing a request for proposals to secure a contractor to perform the Phase 3 streetscape improvements. Staff is currently drafting a request for proposals for Phase 3 design and construction to include installation of sidewalk, curb, driveway aprons, ADA ramps and tree lawn.

3/31/2017 12:08:38 PM:
Phase 3 construction will begin once an additional annual concrete contractor is secured by the Streets Maintenance Department. Bids are currently open and expected to close January 31, 2017. Prior phases of this project have already been completed.
